Wae West!

Another Featured Fashionista on my blog..... Miss WAE WEST!

And man she's fabulous! So, of course I had to share her with you... her style is just endless, my perfect blend of trendy and creative. I like people that aren't afraid to push boundaries when it comes to clothing and fashion, one's that add their own personal touch to their outfits.

So I VERY much like Miss West.

She was kind enough to do a little interview for me.... So let's get to know her a bit better.

My name is Genna-Wae Webster.

I am the creative around the clothing brand Wae West. I was named after a character played by Priscilla Presley on Dallas, Genna Wade.  Sharon being my mom's late best friend as my second name and proudly a Webster.

I am a free-spirit, a lover of furry beings (especially my cats) and believe in existing within the positive realm when it comes to how I live my day-to-day life.  Clothing design has called to me from my early teens when I began to collect and draw from comic books, with a strong leaning towards costume design. Five hundred comic books later and a crash course in desktop publishing and Italian dressmaking, I entered the big bad world of commercial clothing design.

Unicorns, mermaids, fairies and all things fantastical are very much what inspire me.  Collecting super hero things and My Little Ponies as well as a mild shoe obsession, get me excited.  Getting lost in movies and tv, is what I do for escapism from life. Being involved in helping others with guidance wherever I can is also a big part of who I am.  I have just started exploring tarot readings as another part of my business as I seem to have a gift worth sharing.  I never tire of talking, chatterbox was my childhood nickname. Strong willed, big ideas and bold opinions with a lot of fight for the victory of the underdog is how I live each day.

Yoga is how I keep fit and doing photoshoots for fun is how I grow confidence by putting myself under the very uncomfortable spotlight.  Facing your fears and being authentically you no matter what people think is how life should be lived and living in a state of unconditional happiness is how you maintain a positive mindset.

Working my way to the top of the food chain in just 4 years of hard work within the industry. I have worked for great brands like Ecko, Zoo York, David & Goliath, Bad Girl, Gotcha Girl and Lost. I have had 14 years of experience in the commercial clothing sector but have also run my own mini CMT for 6 of those years.
After some big decisions and life changes, I decided to make my focus more my brand Wae West rather than solely manufacturing clothing for others. The brand has a broad appeal and is currently offering product in mens and ladies casual fashion as well as ladies underwear and lingerie.

Collaboration is a big part of my core values in business, inspiring me to launch my store called SAM-South African Made. Sadly the project had to be put on hold middle of 2016 but there is still hope it can be revisited in the not too distant future. I enjoy promoting others, if they are brands I believe in, because I feel there is plenty of love to go around.

From photographers to artists and other designers, I have collaborated with many others on different projects. I was also part of the first 4 designers to represent the KZNFC for the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week JHB in 2012 with my fusion lingerie range where none of my models were the conventional model types and included drag performer Diva Cadache.

The point behind my different and personal approach for social media and brand is to sell an entire personality that lives, breathes, eats and sleeps the brand. I am unafraid when it comes to biting into life and the challenges that lay before me and want to represent a positive attitude when posting about my brand. After all, we are all so much more than just the clothing we wear, so if we subscribe to a culture and brand, we should be living a multi dimensional existence, not just a single one.

If you wish to collaborate with me on anything, from media coverage, product sponsorships or brand guidance then please get in touch.

I mean, has this boss lady/designer/artist/model/all-round-fabulous got it all going on or what???

As she mentions, comic books and costume design are her thing... Wae designed and made my oh-so-sleek catwoman outfit for the cover of Spliced Magazine. Have a look at it here.

Outfit: Waewest. Fabric will vary as these were samples.

Wae's Fashion Tip:

Use your wardrobe to be an extension of yourself. You are a blank canvas every day you get dressed, have fun with it, own your own style. Screw what the magazines tell you just go with what feels right and own it completely. We live in a world that now embraces our uniqueness, a far cry from my younger days where I was the odd ball, time to appreciate that openness that we have been gifted with.
